# For the first time VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation receive titanium-containing raw materials from Australia

Ural VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation, the world major titanium producer received the first lot of titanium-containing raw materials from Australia, the Company press service advised.

«Titanium-containing raw materials mined from entrails of this continent is delivered to AVISMA for the first time. A bulk-carrier with 30 thou. tons of the concentrate arrived in Novorossiysk where  the great batch was packaged in smaller lots of 1,800 MT that were delivered  on  «river-sea» type vessels along the Volga and the Kama to Berezniki. Then the raw material is delivered to the melting shop by auto trucks. The first tons of the raw materials are already in the shop warehouse», the press-service specified.

According to RAS academician and Chairman of RAS Metallurgy and Metals Committee Mr. Leopold Leontyev, Russia holds a leading position with regard to deposits of titanium-containing raw, however, they are not used for production of valuable metallic titanium and titanium dioxide.  Metallic titanium is produced by AVISMA  mainly from  Ukrainian raw materials (88% – Volnogorsk GOK, Dnepropetrovsk region) and if Ukraine refuses to supply this raw material, it is purchased in India, Australia and other countries.
